CHANDIGARH: Punjab government employees and pensioners from across the state held a rally on Saturday under the banner of ‘Punjab and UT Mulazam and Pensioners Sanjha Front’ at the new grain market in Sector 39 here, demanding implementation of the 6th pay commission from January 2016.
Over 10,000 employees gathered for the rally. They also demanded regularisation of contractual and outsourced employees, release of pending dearness allowance instalments, and re-implementation of the old pension scheme.
Chief minister’s OSD Sandeep Singh Brar later visited the protest site in the afternoon, assuring the protesting employees and pensioners that the chief minister will meet their representatives on September 20. The OSD was handed over a memorandum, citing demands by protesters. Gurmail Singh Sidhu, state convenor of the front, said the state government was implementing the pay commission as per its own whims and fancies and not ready to pay the deserving dearness allowance to employees. He added nearly 7,500 contractual and outsourced employees of Punbus and PRTC were on the roads, demanding their regularisation and many of them also joined the protest rally on Saturday.
