BATHINDA: With no respite in youngsters falling prey to drug abuse, half a dozen youths have died due to alleged drug overdose in last two weeks with two in a day on Sunday at different places in district Bathinda and another on Saturday.
In all these cases, the FIRs have been registered under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
21-year-old Gagancdeep Singh of Bathinda died on Thursday. Tragically the family members took along his dead body when the doctors had asked that the mortal remains to be put at the mortuary. The family was so irked that it preferred to take the youth to home from the hospital at an auto rickshaw.
Devta Singh of Gurusar Senewala complained that his nephew Iqbal Singh (20) was given drugs by some persons due to which he died on August 7. A case has been registered against Bhinder Singh of village Gehri Buttar, Jang Singh of Gurthari and three to four unidentified at Sangat police station. Bhinder Singh has been arrested.
Kaur Singh of village Surghuri in district Faridkot complained to the police that his son Arshdeep Singh (25) had gone to Bathinda to meet someone. Some persons informed that the dead body of his son had been recovered from the washroom of a hotel at Bathinda on August 7. He had died of drugs as someone gave him drug overdose. The case u/s 304 IPC has been registered against unknown persons at police station Bathinda kotwali. The police is looking for to whom Arshdeep had met and from whom he got the drugs.
In another case, Rani Kaur of village Pitho made complaint against three persons including two brothers of giving her son Manpreet Singh (25) the overdose of drugs due to which he died on August 6. The case u/s 304 IPC has been registered against brothers Amadeep Singh and Jaspreet Singh apart from Chhinda Singh of village Pitho at Rampura sadar police station and all three have been arrested.
Earlier two days ago Balwinder Singh of village Mehraj had complained to the police against one Balbir Singh of same village alleging that he provided drugs to his son Dharmpreet Singh (23) due to which Dharmpreet died. The case has been registered against Balbir Singh at City Rampura police station. On the same day the civil lines police of Bathinda on a complaint made by one Naseeb Kaur had caught one Gurmail Singh of Bathinda while injecting drug.
A national boxing player Kuldeepm Singh (20) of Talwandi Sabo had died of drug over dose on July 28. Kuldeep had won 3 bronze medals in national school games and 2 gold medals in under 19 national boxing championship. Talwandi Sabo police had registered case against 5 unidentified persons under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
In between the dead body of 27 years old Ranjodh Singh of village Talwandi Bootia near Shahkot in district Jalandhar was recovered from the fields at village Redwa in district Moga on August 2. A syringe was also been recovered from near the dead body. Ranjodh Singh only a year ago had solemnised marriage.
