RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh police have arrested two inter-state drug peddlers, hailing from Punjab, in the state capital Raipur and seized 104 gm of brown sugar worth about Rs 10 lakh from their possession.
Both accused, who belong to Tarantaran in Punjab, had come to Raipur to deliver the brown sugar to one Rupindee Singh alias Pinder, a resident of Kabir Nagar, Raipur. However, Rupinder, who has served jail terms several times in drug peddling cases, managed to escape when police raided the location where the trio was busy finalising the dealing of drugs.
Senior superintendent of police, Raipur, Prashant Agrawal said that the police were tipped off about the accused on February 3. Police were informed that two persons from Punjab had the plan to deliver the brown sugar to Rupinder near Chandni Chowk railway lane under Saraswati Nagar police station area of Raipur.
On the basis of the information, a joint team of the anti-crime and cyber unit and Saraswati Nagar police conducted the raid at the said spot and caught the accused red-handed. However, Rupinder managed to escape.
The remaining two accused Kanwaljeet Singh, 22 and Balraj Singh, 20, both residents of Tarantaran in Punjab, failed in their attempt to give a slip to the police and were apprehended. On being interrogated, the accused confessed that they had brought the drugs from Punjab to deliver them to Rupinder.
Saraswati Nagar police booked the accused under Section 21B, 29 Narcotics Act. Rupinder Singh is a habitual offender and he has served jail in such cases on several occasions, said the police who were searching for him.
