CHANDIGARH: Amidst fresh spurt in Covid cases, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday claimed that the state was fully prepared to tackle any surge in the cases of pandemic.
Participating in the virtual meeting of chief ministers convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in wake of the rise in cases of Covid, Mann said that Punjab has evolved an effective mechanism to tackle any sort of new wave of the pandemic.
He said that Punjab had sufficient resources to deal with any sort of emergency, adding that the situation was under control in the state and further steps will be taken. He added that the medical and para medical staff of the state, who are the real corona warriors, are better equipped to face any rise in cases of the Covid pandemic.
Mann said that 97% of the state’s population had already got the first dose of Covid vaccine, 76% of people had been administered double dose as compared to the national percentage of 87% and 5.11 lakh people have also got booster doses to fight the pandemic.
He said that at present there very few cases (only 176 cases are active) in the state adding that on an average 25 cases are coming up daily. Mann said that neither any patient was in a critical situation nor was in the ICU and only six cases of level two are there in the state.
The chief minister claimed that there is no dearth of resources to provide the best health services to people of the state. He reiterated that the state government is duty bound to make all necessary arrangements to prevent possible fourth or next wave of Covid-19 adding he said that regular monitoring of the Covid situation is being done by the state government. Mann said that there are already sufficient numbers of beds available and the state is adequately prepared for any surge in the number of cases.
It was pointed out that there are 1,236 beds at Government Medical College Amritsar, 1,450 beds at Government Medical College Patiala and 1,025 beds at Government Medical College, Faridkot. Besides, 360, 560 and 400 Oxygen beds are available at Amritsar, Patiala and Faridkot respectively.
Mann said that the number of ICU beds in Amritsar are 280, in Faridkot 250 and in Patiala 280 adding that there are 165 Covid ventilator beds in Amritsar, 96 in Patiala and 141 in Faridkot.
