Punjab: Power back after 22 hours in Kharar, protests on

MOHALI: Protests against power cuts in the district continued Friday. Power cuts were reported in various parts of Mohali city, Nayagaon, Kurali, Zirakpur and Derabassi. In Kharar, power snapped at 2pm on Thursday was restored at 12 noon on Friday.

Intermittent power cuts have kept residents awake in the nights for past 72 hours in many parts of Lohgarh, Dhakoli, Ghazipur, Baltana, Pabhat, VIP road and Chhat village. Raj Rani of Lohgarh said, “We have been sustaining power cuts of two to four hours daily from past three days. With power cuts, water supply also stops.”

SAD MLA N K Sharma, who along with residents held a dharna outside the PSPCL office in Baltana on Friday, said the Congress government failed to foresee the power demand and supply scenario during the peak summer season because of which today every residents and farmers were facing problems. “This was also done deliberately to keep the subsidy bill down,” he alleged.
