Punjab Police files chargesheet against dismissed cabinet minister Vijay Singla

CHANDIGARH: The Mohali police filed a chargesheet against dismissed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) cabinet minister Vijay Singla in the local court on Monday.

The chargesheet was registered under sections 7 and 8 of Prevention of Corruption Act.

The case is being investigated by DSP Bikrmajit Singh Brar and he has filed the chargesheet in the court. Vijay Singla was bailed out by the court, recently.

On May 24, the Mohali police had arrested AAP health minister Vijay Singla on corruption charges. The action came following orders of chief minister Bhagwant Mann, said senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni.

His OSD has also been arrested by the police as it was suspected that Singla asked for the bribe money though his OSD Pardeep Kumar.

Chief minister Bhagwant Mann dismissed health minister Dr Vijay Singla for seeking 2% commission in department headed by him. Singla allegedly demanded bribe as commission for allotment of funds in government tenders. Initially, they demanded 2% commission against the total amount of Rs 58 Crore amounting to Rs 1.16 crore but the complainant refused to give bribe.

Subsequently, they demanded 1% of commission as bribe for tenders. The complainant offered five lakh as bribe to escape harassment at the hands of the accused.

The complainant, Rajinder Singh, executive engineer posted on deputation in Punjab Health Systems Corporation phase VIII Mohali in his complaint alleged that Vijay Singla demanded 2% commission in the works allotted and payments made to the contractors of the works wroth Rs 58 crores. Pradeep demanded commission in works worth Rs 41 crore and for the payment made to the contractor worth Rs 15 crore.

When Rajinder refused to do so, Singla threatened him to spoil his career as he is about to retire in November 2022. Later Pradeep asked Rajinder to pay Rs 10 lakh to spare him but Rajinder said that he has just Rs 5 lakh in his account and then OSD asked him to pay Rs 5 lakh for transfer. Rajinder recorded all the conversation and submitted with CM.
