ROPAR: Another case of assault on a mining department offcial for acting against illegal activities has come to light in the home district of Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi. However, the police is yet to take any action so far even after the hospitalised officer registering a complaint with the Ropar police.
In his complaint, Punjab mining department junior engineer Gagandeep Singh has claimed that he conducted a raid at an illegal mining spot near Mandwara village of Ropar district. He claimed to have informed the police and requested them to reach the area, but alleged that none of the officials reached the spot on time.
Gagandeep Singh said, “On Friday, at around 2 PM, I informed the police about illegal mining I had traced out and asked them to send a force. A tipper and porcelain machine were being used for illegal mining activity and the mining was done beyond 6 feet depth. The police did not reach the area, but some unidentified accused reached the spot and assaulted me. The accused then took me to a unknown location where they assaulted me and forced me to say that I demanded bribe from them. They also videographed the entire episode. I was kidnapped for around four hours.
“However, I managed to escape from the spot as the accused were busy with their phones. My face is swollen and I have faced internal eye injury as well. I have given a statement to the police on Sunday, but I am shocked as no police personnel has called back”.
