Punjab: Man with mental illness murders aunt, injures 2

MOHALI: A mentally challenged man allegedly killed his 60-year-old aunt and injured two other women of his family in Macchlikalan village in Kharar here on Monday, police said after arresting him.

Kharar DSP Rupinderdeep Kaur Sohi said 25-year-old Lakhvinder Singh armed with sharp-edged weapons barged into the house of his paternal aunt Saroj and attacked her.When her daughter-in-law Jyoti came to save her, he attacked her too, the DSP said. On hearing their cries, Saroj Rani, another aunt of the accused, came from neighbouring house.

When she tried to save them, Lakhvinder also attacked her.The DSP said the relatives were living in separate houses but next door to each other. “We have arrested Lakhvinder. He is said to be mentally challenged.” The DSP said the exact reason for the attack was unclear but it was said he was annoyed with his aunt over some argument.
