MOHALI: A Zirakpur resident lost his SUV to a thief when he stepped out to buy alcohol while leaving the engine on, leading the police to register a case on Sunday. Harshit Kumar of Motia City, Zirakpur, on July 2 was going towards Kharar in his Maruti S-Cross SUV on July 2.
He stopped near Chhat village on the airport road to buy “Bacardi Breezer” from a liquor vend at noon. He said he left the car engine and AC on so that it remains cool. When he came back, his car was missing. Assistant sub inspector (ASI) Jaswinder Singh, the investigating officer, they were scanning the suspected routes. Police have also questioned liquor vend employees to know if they saw anyone drive away the car. The CCTV footage of various toll plazas were being examined, he said.
