CHANDIGARH: The Punjab cabinet on Friday approved the recruitment of 160 assistant professors and 17 librarians in 18 new government colleges.
The recruitments will be made by the state government’s departmental selection committee, after the posts are taken out of the purview of Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).
The cabinet also gave the nod to form a departmental selection committee, comprising UGC former chairman Prof Ved Prakash as chairperson with vice-chancellor of GNDU, Amritsar; DPI, a representative of principal secretary, department of social justice and empowerment (not below the rank of joint director), and three subject matter experts (not below the rank of professor) to be selected by the committee as members. The recruitments will be carried out on GC guidelines.
9 COURTS FOR RAPE, POCSO CASES
To reduce the pendency of Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and rape cases, the Punjab cabinet also approved setting up of nine fast-track special courts in Amritsar, Bathinda, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Mansa, Moga, Patiala and Mohali and creation of 117 posts for the same.
