Punjab: Former deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa asked to return ministerial vehicle

CHANDIGARH: Congress leader and former deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has been asked by the Punjab transport commissioner to return the vehicle he is no longer entitled to, prompting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders to advise him to do so.

In a letter to Randhawa on Wednesday, it has been pointed out that an Innova Cyrasta (Top Model) (No. PB 65-BA-1504), which he was entitled to as a cabinet minister, is still with him. He has been asked to return the vehicle to the ministers’ car wing so that a different vehicle as per his present position could be allotted to him.

Dr Amandeep Arora, AAP MLA from Moga said that the fact that the Congress MLA from Dera Baba Nanak was still using the car meant for cabinet ministers amounted to misuse of the state’s resources.

Another AAP MLA Hardip Singh Mundian tweeted that Randhawa had still not returned the vehicle. "This VIP culture will have to stop as now there is people’s rule in the state," he said. Mundian also posted a copy of the letter sent to Randhawa by the transport department.

Randhawa, who had joined Capt Amarinder Singh’s government in 2018, was later elevated as the Deputy CM with the home portfolio when Congress decided to replace Amarinder with Charanjit Singh Channi as the new CM barely months before the Assembly elections.
