Punjab: Field fire cases cross 2021 tally, 10,314 so far

BATHINDA: Crop burning cases in the ongoing wheat harvesting and procurement season on Thursday surpassed the total burning cases recorded in the year 2021.

As against the total 10,100 burning cases recorded in the previous year, the tally reached 10,314 on Thursday with 796 burning cases recorded in the last 24 hours. This despite the fact that wheat chaff, or toori in local parlance, is fetching much more price than the previous years.

With such a surge, the wheat straw burning cases in the ongoing season are much more than the previous year till May 5. Till May 4, these were four times more than the previous season.

Punjab Remote Sensing Centre’s data suggests and Amritsar district recorded the maximum cases on Thursday at 146, followed by 97 in Gurdaspur and 96 in Moga. Ferozepur, so far, has recorded maximum cases at 1163, followed by 958 at Gurdaspur, 939 in Amritsar, 909 at Tarn Taran, and 907 at Moga,
