Punjab: Dead friend's body parts in tandoor, juvenile arrested in Patiala

PATIALA: Nabha police on Friday arrested a 17-year-old youth for allegedly killing his friend and found the chopped parts of his body stuffed in a tandoor. The accused had buried some body parts in the compound of his uncle's house and dumped some in a drain nearby.

Police said the accused has been taken into custody, while a hunt is on to nab his uncle. The deceased is Kundi Ram (18), of Kartarpura Colony on the outskirts of Nabha. Police said he was killed on Wednesday night and a search was launched only after his mother reported him missing. The accused has denied killing his friend. He told his interrogators that Kundi died of drug overdose. "The accused claimed he did not kill his friend, but he did try to dispose of his body by putting it inside a tandoor at his house. When the body did not burn properly, he said he chopped it with a spade and buried parts of it in the verandah of his uncle's house and dumped the rest in a drain nearby. The accused and his uncle Gursewak Singh are neighbours. We have recovered the body parts," said Gagandeep Singh, station house officer of Nabha Sadar police station.

"We are checking if the accused have any crime record and verifying the claim of drug overdose. The accused is a Class XII correspondence student and had gone to Mansa to stay with his mother, who is a widow and got a job there a month ago. But, he returned to his late stepfather's house in Nabha to stay for a week. A case has been registered on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy," said DSP Nabha Rajesh Chibber.
