PATIALA: A policeman in Punjab's Patiala was injured after being hit by a car stopped during a check-up conducted ahead of Independence Day.

The car driver had hit the cop in an attempt to escape from the spot.

The cop was dragged by the car up to a few meters and the incident was recorded in the camera by a passerby.

A video of the incident had also gone viral on social media sites within a few hours of the dragging incident that took place near Leela Bhawan chowk in Patiala.

The police said that the accused was driving a Swift Desire car having registration number of Haryana.

The police said that the cop, identified as Suba Singh, an assistant sub-inspector in Patiala, got his left foot fractured in the incident and was immediately rushed to the nearby private hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

DSP Patiala, Hemant Kumar, said, “The hunt to nab the accused is on as the number of the car has been traced out.”
