Punjab CM orders officials to do feasibility of outer ring road to ease traffic woes in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: In order to "ease" nagging traffic congestion in Ludhiana, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday directed the district administration to do a feasibility study of an outer ring road.

Presiding over a meeting to review the status of development projects, the Chief Minister said that the outer ring road would reduce traffic pressure remarkably in the main city to a large extent. He said that with the expansion of the city and heavy load of vehicles on roads, the traffic congestion has become a grave concern which necessiated an outer ring road in the Ludhiana.

Mann asked the officials to submit the report in this regard as soon as possible so that work can start on the project at the earliest. He said that earlier governments had "failed" to take notice of the traffic woes being faced by the people. He said that an outer ring road would not only "decongest" the Ludhiana roads but also help to provide alternative routes to the commuters.

The Chief Minister said that his government was "committed" to make world-class road infrastructure in the state and every effort is being made to facilitate the people. Meanwhile, he also took stock of the other key projects including Budha Dariya Rejuvenation, Smart City, National Highways and others.

This meeting was attended by Cabinet Minister Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, among others.
