Punjab: CID inspector crushed under train in Patiala

PATIALA: A 53-year-old Punjab police constable has been crushed under a passenger train in Patiala on Monday evening. The incident took place near railway crossing No. 21 in Patiala city while the body of the deceased cop was cut into pieces after being crushed by the train.

The deceased has been identified as Inspector Paramjit Singh, 53, of Ramgarh village of Patiala. The police said that the incident took place at 5.30PM, however it was being probed if the officer had committed suicide.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) that reached the spot after being informed about the incident said that Paramjit Singh was posted as an officer in the CID wing Patiala police and was on leave for quite a long-time. The police said that he got crushed under a passenger train on Monday evening. Though some eye-witness claimed it was a suicide but the matter was being thoroughly probed, said police.

"The dead body will be handed over to the family members after the postmortem is conducted. The family has been informed about the incident and they have identified the dead body. Further investigation is being carried out. The statements of the train driver and eye-witnesses are being recorded while a case under sections 174 CrPC has been registered to inquest for further proceedings", said Gurbhej Singh, GRP Patiala who is investigating the case.

The CID officials revealed that Paramjit Singh was on leave since April and did not have his own weapon issued. The officials said that matter was being probed over the incident.
