Punjab assembly polls: Kharar SDM issues notice to AAP for its door-to-door campaign

CHANDIGARH: The Kharar returning officer-cum-sub divisional magistrate on Wednesday issued a notice for violation of the model code of conduct to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The AAP has fielded singer Anmol Gagan Mann from Kharar assembly constituency in Punjab's Mohali district as its candidate for the February 14 assembly polls.

The DM has sought its explanation within 24 hours of its door-to-door campaign launched under party convenor Arvind Kejriwal in which more than five people were involved.

The returning officer made it clear that in case the AAP fails to submit its reply in writing within 24 hours, action will be taken as per the instructions of Election Commission of India (ECI).

Kejriwal, accompanied by the party candidate and Punjab AAP president Bhagwant Mann, launched the door-to-door election campaign on Wednesday from Kharar assembly segment.

The returning officer said that a meeting was held with all the political parties on January 9 about various restrictions imposed by the ECI, including a complete ban on rallies and demonstrations and restrictions on door-to-door campaigns by more than five persons.

But AAP launched a door-to-door campaign on Wednesday in which more than five people were involved.

By doing so, the AAP has violated the code of conduct.
