CHANDIGARH: Even as a couple of Congress leaders began tweeting about making the father of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala the consensus candidate for Sangrur bypoll slated for June 23, the latter released a video message on Saturday saying that he was not in the frame of mind to even consider such a thing.
In the video message, the singer's father, Balkaur Singh, said he felt sad at the rumours on social media. He said he had just lost his son and had no plans to contest elections. He also sought the presence of the singer's fans at his bhog in Mansa on June 8 and said he would share his thoughts with them there. He also thanked people for standing by the family.
Bajwa, Warring had supported proposal
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa tweeted on Friday, "I support the suggestion of Sardara Singh Johl for Balkaur Singh ji, father of Sidhu Moose Wala, being fielded as a consensus candidate for the Sangrur Parliamentary bypoll.""As a cultural icon, Sidhu Moose Wala touched the lives of millions of Punjabis. His death is a huge loss to Punjabi society at large. His loss to Punjab pales in comparison to the loss felt by his parents. No parent should ever face the experience of cremating their own son," Bajwa had added.
Before that Punjab PCC chief Amrinder Singh ‘Raja Warring’ had also supported this suggestion.
