LUDHIANA: In one of the biggest anti-evasion operation on highways by the state GST (SGST) department, about 78 goods trucks which were found to be without bills and proper documents have been seized.
The action is being conducted on several roads near Khanna, Mandi Gobindgarh, Amloh etc. Several truck drivers and staff fled the spot after which massive raid was conducted by the tax department.
Heavy police force and several teams of SGST led by its director of investigation HPS Ghotra are executing the entire operation in which department is expected to earn huge amount of tax and penalties worth several crores.
Sources claim that majority of these trucks were entering Punjab from different states and were laden with scrap which is in huge demand in Ludhiana , Mandi Gobindgarh and other cities in Punjab.
The action by SGST was still on till the filing of this news and it is expected that the number of seized trucks might increase till Tuesday.
