Punjab: 2 aides of gangster caught with arms, 500g heroin

MOHALI: Police arrested two gangsters and seized arms, ammunition and drugs from their possession. They were arrested by Zirakpur police near Aero City. Police seized a .32 caliber foreign-made pistol along with seven live cartridges and half kg heroin from their possession.

The arrested gangsters, Sukhwinder Singh alias Nikka and Lovepreet Singh alias Lovely are said to be close aides of jailed gangster Gurdeep Singh alias Manna of Barnala. Manna, who is presently lodged in Hoshiarpur jail, has more than 38 heinous crime cases registered against him, said senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni.

“We had success in apprehending two dreaded gangsters who are said to be members of the gang of gangster Gurdeep Singh alias Manna. This is a major breakthrough in the drive against drug traffickers and gangsters operating in the Tricity,” the SSP said.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Bikramjit Singh Brar said that gangster Sukhwinder Singh alias Nikka and Lovepreet Singh alias Lovely, both residents of Sandaur village, Malerkotla district were arrested from Chat lightpoint near the Aero City slip road.

Brar said that the police team of Zirakpur police station, led by Zirakpur SHO, inspector Deepinder Singh and SI Burma Singh intercepted a swift silver car bearing Delhi registration number. Police saw two men sitting in the car, who started acting suspiciously on spotting them. Seeing this, the police team questioned both and searched the car to find arms, ammunition and drugs.

During preliminary interrogation, they said they were aides of Gurdeep Singh alias Manna, resident of Mehal Kalan, Barnala. They have been arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS and Arms Act.
