Kannada film actor Puneeth Rajkumar has died after he was hospitalised following a massive heart on Friday morning. He was 46.
It has been reported that he was working out at his gym when he complained of having chest pains before being rushed to hospital, where he sadly passed away.
Around 11.30am, Puneeth was taken to a private hospital in Bengaluru (Bangalore) before being transferred to Vikram Hospital after his condition deteriorated, Times of India has reported.
Crowds of fans soon congregated outside the hospital where Puneeth, who was affectionately known as Appu, was being treated.
Fellow actors and the chief minister of the city also visited the star as medical staff fought hard to save his life.
Dr Ranganath Nayak, senior consultant cariologist at Vikram hospital, told media that Puneeth Rajkumar arrived at the hospital with chest pains.
He said: "Prior to coming here, he had gone to a clinic following chest pain around 11 am.
"ECG was done in the clinic. He has suffered from heart attack. Treatment was immediately initiated as he arrived. His condition is critical."
Stars of Bollywood and fellow actors rushed to share tributes to Puneeth, as news of his death sparked heartbreak across the country.
Khushubu Sandar tweeted: "Appu, you cannot leave us so shattered. You are a gem I have known. I am not able to take this news. Don't go Appu.. come back..pls come back. Pls. #RIP #PuneethRajkumar"
Virender Sehwag also wrote: "Saddened to hear about the passing away of #PuneethRajkumar . Warm , and humble, his passing away is a great blow to Indian cinema. May his soul attain sadgati. Om Shanti."
Indian actor Sudheer Babu shared on Twitter: "A star gone too soon leaving the film fraternity in deep sorrow.. you will be missed forever!! Rest in peace #PuneethRajkumar"
