PUNE: The water supply helpline of the civic body - started around a week ago - has been flooded with residents' complaints.
Over 300 complaints have been logged so far through the helpline number - 020-25501383 - operational from 10am to 6pm. According to the helpline data, on an average 40 to 50 complaints are pouring in per day from old city areas as well as fringes. Residents across the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas have flagged issues, mostly related to low pressure water supply and non-availability of water. Complaints regarding laying pipelines or damages to them have also been lodged.
"We get water late in the night. The supply at low pressure starts at 11pm or midnight and continues for about a couple of hours. Our demand is to get water in the evening with good pressure," said complainant Vijay Ghare, a resident of Maharshinagar.
Kasba Peth's Sumit Waghmare said they were getting water only for a couple of hours.
"Some areas get water throughout the day. We are also paying the water tax, then why is the discrimination? Our area should get 24x7 water," he said.
Aniruddha Pawaskar, the head of PMC's water supply department, said, "The helpline aims at bringing the water issues at forefront and resolve them. We are addressing the complaints as and when they come. The issues are being sorted out at the earliest," said.
According to PMC officials, solving problems become easier if specific details about water supply issues are shared with the water department.
