Pune: Wakad boy, 14, drowns in Kasarsai dam waters

PUNE/NASHIK: A 14-year-old boy from Kaspate Vasti in Wakad drowned in the Kasarsai dam near Hinjewadi on Sunday morning. The boy, Prabhumna Gaikwad, had entered the waters along with his parents around 10am. Local residents and volunteers from the Shiv Durga Mitra Mandal recovered the body around 3.30pm.

In another incident in Nashik, one Spandan Gaikwad (18) drowned in the Gangapur dam on Saturday evening after falling in while washing his hands in the waters.

The Kasarsai dam case was the 10th drowning incident in Pune district in the last four days. On Thursday, nine people, including four students and five women, had drowned in the Chaskman dam in Khed taluka and Bhatghar dam in Bhor taluka in separate incidents.

Of the five women in the Bhatghar case, four were sisters and the fifth was their sister-in-law. They drowned while taking photographs in the waters. At Chaskaman, the four Class X students from a residential school in Rajgurunagar, including two girls, were part of a bigger group of students who were on an outing on their last day in school.
