PUNE: Police on Thursday night detained a man in connection with the sexual assault on a Std VI student in the washroom of her school at Shivajinagar sometime between 11am and 11.30am on Wednesday.
“We detained the man, who looks similar to the suspect as seen in the CCTV footage at the school. We are questioning him to verify his role in the crime,” inspector Vikram Goud of the Shivajinagar police said.
Joint police commissioner Ravindra Shisve and DCP (Zone I) Priyanka Narnaware went to the school on Wednesday and Thursday and formed teams to probe the case. An officer said the police had scanned CCTV footage of the school to identify the man and conduct a technical analysis for further probe. The police on Thursday prepared a sketch of the man and shared it among its units.
Senior inspector Anita More of the Shivajinagar police told TOI, “The girl, aged 11, provided us with the man’s description. She had first shared the incident with her classmates, who approached their teachers and told them about the crime. The teachers then called the girl’s parents to the school.”
