Pune rain today (July 7): IMD orange alert in effect as 5 die in rain-related incidents in two days; Pune records 264.8 mm rain in 6 days, IndiGo issues travel advisory

Heavy rain continued to batter Pune and nearby areas on Monday, leading to multiple tragedies across the district. At least five people have died in separate rain-related incidents over the past two days as Maharashtra remains under the influence of an active monsoon spell and an orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The deaths were reported from a landslide in Patan, a wall collapse in Pimpri-Chinchwad and a flooding-related incident in Khed tehsil, highlighting the dangers posed by continuous rainfall across the region.

Pune schools, colleges shut today amid rain alert

Amid persistent heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has declared a holiday for all schools in seven talukas of Pune district on Tuesday, July 7.

The closure applies to educational institutions in Junnar, Ambegaon, Khed, Maval, Mulshi, Rajgad and Bhor talukas. The order covers all types of schools and childcare centres, including Zilla Parishad schools, municipal schools, Ashram schools, private schools, aided and unaided institutions, English-medium schools, as well as all Anganwadi centres operating in these areas.

Schools located in Pune city and nearby urban areas, however, will remain open and function as usual.

Authorities have advised parents and students in the affected talukas to take note of the holiday announcement and exercise caution as heavy rain continues across parts of the district.

IndiGo issues travel advisory

Air travelers flying to or from Mumbai and Pune may face disruptions due to heavy rainfall affecting flight operations in both cities, IndiGo said in its travel advisory.
