Pune: Pimple Saudagar & Wakad swelter for over eight hours

PUNE: Over 3,000 residents of Pimple Saudagar and Wakad areas witnessed an eight-and-a-half hour power outage on Sunday from 4.30am till 1pm. After power was restored, there was another outage from 4.15pm to 5.45pm.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) officials said cable damage had led to the outage, but residents said that the frequency of power cuts had increased in the past few days.

Ramesh Sethi, secretary of Planet Millennium Cooperative Housing Society in Pimple Saudagar, told TOI, “The ward-level executive engineer of MSEDCL does respond to our calls. The frequency of the outage in our area has increased over the past few days. On Sunday, there was no electricity for over eight hours and two days ago on Friday, it was in the afternoon for nearly four hours. We are hoping power supply remains more stable as everyone in the house suffers when the day temperatures are high and it is peak summer.”

Sethi added that the power distribution company needs to revamp its infrastructure so that power outages are minimal.

An official from Pimple Saudagar’s MSEDCL office said that the cable damage led to power outage in some housing societies in Pimple Saudagar and Kaspate Vasti areas. Bhavana Jain, a resident of the Pimple Saudagar, said that even if the power outage was on Sunday, working professionals had to suffer as they are at work.
