PUNE: A 39-year-old driver, working at a private hospital in Pimpri Chinchwad, on Sunday filed a complaint against a man for duping him of Rs52,000 on the promise of helping him to get a loan.
“Instead of helping the complainant, the suspect obtained the loan in the former’s name, with which he purchased a high-end smartphone worth Rs52,000. He did not return the sum, thereby duping him,” Vijay Rathod, investigating officer (IO) from the Hinjewadi police, told TOI.
The fraud took place on February 13 this year. The complainant approached the police on Saturday after pursuing the man for almost two months to get his money back.
The complainant came in contact with the suspect through a woman working in the same hospital as him.
The suspect took the complainant to an electronics store in Hinjewadi and purchased the phone with a loan in the name of the complainant from a private finance firm.
The suspect has been booked under IPC section 406.
