Pune Municipal Corporation’s general body nod to two new hospitals

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) general body on Friday approved the proposals for two new hospitals each, coming up at Baner-Balewadi and Warje.

These will be speciality hospitals and are proposed to be developed on a design-build-finance-operate-transfer (DBFOT) basis.

Leader of house in PMC, Ganesh Bidkar, said that the house has given approval to the proposals.

The PMC will seek all necessary permissions and no objection certificates (NOCs) from the state government after which the process to invite the expression of interest will begin.

The estimated cost of the projects is Rs1,000crore. Bidkar said that the civic body will not have to spend money on the projects.

He also said that the proposals are at a preliminary stage. The hospital proposed at Baner-Balewadi will be for cancer treatment, while the one proposed at Warje will be a multi-speciality facility.

PM Modi likely to visit city in March

PM Narendra Modi is likely to visit the city in the first week of March. Sources from PMC said his visit was planned in January, but cancelled due to an outbreak of pandemic. Now, BJP leaders are pushing for the PM’s visit ahead of the civic polls.
