Pune Metropolitan Region adds 687 fresh Covid infections; 6 succumb

PUNE: The Pune Metropolitan Region on Tuesday added 687 new Covid-19 cases, with both Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations reporting less than 500 cases.

The daily caseload in the rural, council cantonment areas was 207. The Pimpri Chinchwad limits added 146 new patients, while the PMC areas reported 334 new cases.

The region recorded 1,918 recoveries on Tuesday. These included 964 patients from PMC limits, 551 in the Pimpri Chinchwad area and 403 patients in the rural, council and cantonment areas.

As many as 11,061 samples were checked in the region for the infection, which was slightly less than Monday’s tests. The testing in PMC and PCMC limits was reduced below 4,000, while the rural, council Cantonment areas together recorded 4,117 tests. The day’s positivity rate was recorded at 6.2%

A report by district health officer Bhagwan Pawar stated that six more patients died in the region on Tuesday. Three fatalities were recorded in Pimpri Chinchwad, two in PMC limits and one death was recorded in rural parts.

Meanwhile, in the state, both Covid cases and fatalities increased. Maharashtra added 2,831 cases and the fatalities surged to 35 on Tuesday from 12 a day before.

“It has been a good day for Mumbai. There are zero deaths, zero sealed buildings and zero containment zones in the city,” said BMC additional commissioner Suresh Kakani. Of the 2,500-odd active cases, 93 have symptomatic Covid, 2,185 are asymptomatic and 235 are critical.
