Pune: Ex-sarpanch Rangubai Kale dies in shed collapse, rockfalls hit traffic

PUNE: A 50-year-old former sarpanch, Rangubai Kale, died in a kitchen shed collapse at Jawale village in Ambegaon tehsil on Monday afternoon, following incessant downpour in the area. The heavy rainfall, which began on Sunday night, also triggered rockfalls in the Varandha and Pokhri ghat sections in Bhor and Ambegaon tehsils, respectively, disrupting traffic movement.

“As per the government rules and procedure, we have done a revenue panchanama and Kale’s family will get a Rs4 lakh compensation,” Ambegaon’s tehsildar Ruma Joshi said.

The Varandha ghat section connecting Bhor with Konkan had to be closed down for traffic owing to debris removal throughout the day. “Varandha has recorded five rockfall incidents over the last five days,” a senior official from the district disaster management cell said on Monday. The authorities cleared the Pokhri ghat of the debris by deploying earth movers. In Khed tehsil, a loose boulder fell on Bhorgiri-Bhimashankar route on Monday afternoon.
