PUNE: An employee of an automobile company at Chakan MIDC suffered deep cut injuries on his right leg after a leopard chased his two-wheeler and attacked him at Tawarewadi village in the Manchar forest range around 10pm on Tuesday. The victim Hrushikesh Taware (24) was on his way to work on his night duty.
Manchar forest officials said the animal was in a sugarcane farm close to the road and emerged suddenly from the field to attack the victim, before the latter could anticipate and speed up his bike. Taware somehow managed to free his leg and speed up away from the spot. “He received claw injuries on his leg,” said Smita Rajhans, the Manchar range forest officer.
“He was treated at the Manchar sub-district hospital. His condition is stable. As per the government norms, he has got free medical aid as the nature of the injury was the non-serious type,” Rajhans added.
The forest officials said that it was the third such incident in the last six months in the range. “Animals migrate during the sugarcane cutting season. Till the time, they find a safe place for them, they usually remain in aggressive mode. They are not acquainted with the conditions of the area. In such a situation, they tend to attack people if they suddenly appear before them.
