PUNE: A heavy iron mesh and construction material fell on workers at an under-construction building site at Shastrinagar in Yerawada around 11. 15pm on Thursday, killing six of them and leaving seven others injured.
DCP Rohidas Pawar told TOI, “The workers were executing construction work in the basement of the building. Material like cement blocks were kept on a heavy iron mesh and the workers were tying together iron rods for the slab construction.
Suddenly, the iron mesh and construction material fell on them. ” Senior police inspector Yunus Shaikh said, “Three workers died on the spot. Two others were found motionless and one was seriously injured, but they too died later. ”
Fire brigade officials said, “For now, it is not clear whether it was a commercial or residential site. ”
