PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is yet to cover 5% adult beneficiaries with the first dose of Covid vaccines though it has administered the second shot to at least 79% of the target population in this category.
The Pune city and the Pune rural health departments have achieved 100% first dose adult vaccination, but around 26,000 people in this category are yet to get their first shot in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits.
Pimpri Chinchwad municipal commissioner Rajesh Patil told TOI, “We have observed that at least 1.5 lakh residents from the PCMC (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) limits have taken their doses in the Pune or rural vaccination sites, which is why our figures are low. Our figures will clear the 100%-mark in the coming days.”
The Pimpri Chinchwad civic body has the lowest number of adult beneficiaries with just 17.26 lakh people in this category. It is 30 lakh in the Pune civic limits and 36 lakh in the Pune rural areas. On the current vaccination trend, Patil said the response was steady. “We shall organise special drives in housing societies, schools and colleges so that more beneficiaries get their first dose from the teen category and the precaution doses from the senior citizens’ category,” he said.
