PUNE: A repeat exam for candidates who missed the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (C-TET) was scheduled on Monday at the exam centre in Ramtekdi where nearly 40 candidates reached beyond the specified time and created commotion.
The candidates had to miss the exam.
When the gates were shut after the time mentioned on their hall tickets, the candidates who claimed to have arrived only a few minutes late started an argument with the authorities and barged inside the gate wanting to sit for the exam. The authorities had to take police help when the situation spiralled out of control.
The exam was held on December 16 and 17. However, some candidates faced technical difficulties during these two days, hence the CBSE decided to conduct a re-exam for those who could not attempt it earlier and scheduled it on Monday.
The exam was at 9.30am and the last deadline to admit candidates inside the centre as mentioned on the admit card was 9.15am.
However, some candidates reported later when the gates were closed.
A candidate said, “I reached the centre just four minutes late and was not allowed inside. The centre is little away from the city and there is difficulty in reaching it. I had missed my previous exam too and again today I was not allowed to attempt it.”
After the authorities did not open the gate, the candidates who reported late, pushed the gate, got in and were engaged in a scuffle.
The candidates were joined by their companions who had accompanied them to the centre and all of them started creating commotion at the centre disturbing others.
Deputy commissioner of police (Zone V) Namrata Patil told TOI, “Some aspirants reached the exam centre late and they wanted to enter the examination hall. This led to the chaos and then the exam officials contacted the police. We sent adequate bandobast to the centre. No complaint has been registered as of now, but if the authorities who conducted the examination lodge a complaint, we will register the offence.”
