Pune: 3 membersof a gang rob youth, 2 target bus passenger

PUNE: Three men on a motorcycle intercepted and robbed an 18-year-old youngster of his scooter worth Rs40,000 around half-past midnight on Tuesday near Khadki railway station on Old Pune-Mumbai Highway.

Police said two of the assailants were armed with sharp weapons.

A few hours later, two of the men robbed a private bus passenger near Patil Estate as well, moments after he disembarked at the Sangamwadi private bus bay.

"We have identified the three men, all criminals on record, from CCTV footage retrieved from the crime spots," sub-inspector Mohan Salvi of the Khadki police told TOI, adding, "We will arrest them soon."

In the first case, the youngster from Aundh and his friend from Dhayari had gone to the Shivajinagar area on their scooter to have tea around midnight. They were returning to Aundh when the trio followed, overtook and intercepted them near Khadki railway station to rob the bike. The bike owner then lodged a plaint with the Khadki police on Wednesday morning.

Salvi said, "Two of the three criminals on police records later came back to Shivajinagar from Khadki. Around 5.50am, they robbed a 50-year-old Dhayari resident, waiting for an autorickshaw at Patil Estate, of his cell phone, cash and a pen drive." TOI tried to contact him on Thursday afternoon, but his phone was switched off.
