PUNE: The production of the units in the Bhosari industrial area has been affected big time amid availability of power for only 12 hours till March 26.
While some companies decided to keep their units shut, others arranged generators to meet the March-end deadline. Officials of Small Scale Industries’ Association of Pimpri Chinchwad said that around 4,000 companies have been offered a 12-hour power supply in either of the two shifts — 8 am to 8 pm or 8 pm to 8 am. This arrangement, according to the officials, will remain till Saturday, when the replacement of the 100mva power transformer will take place.
Sandeep Belsare, president, Small Scale Industries Association of Pimpri-Chinchwad, told TOI, “The company owners are on edge with the way things have turned out in the past 24 hours. We are nearing March-end and have our targets to meet. The production has been hampered, and the industries have to bear losses in crores.” He added that those companies which have been allotted power during the night have to call manpower, paying extra allowances.
Jayant Weekey, chief engineer, MSETCL, Pune, told TOI, “We are working on replacement of two transformers at the earliest. The affected one will be replaced by Saturday and the defunct one eplaced by next week. The transformer was affected due to a cat, which got onto it. And we have asked our employees to keep strict vigilance to avoid such incidents in future.”
