Pundits split on Leeds United predictions as 'dull' claim made ahead of Aston Villa clash

Leeds United will be hosting Aston Villa this weekend and the pundits have already had their say as to what the score will be at Elland Road.

Jesse Marsch's men have had to deal with postponements due to the Queen Elizabeth II's death and the international break in a gap between games that spans over a month since the Whites' 5-2 loss against Brentford.

Villa, on the other hand, sit in 15th place in the table and despite winning their last match against Southampton 1-0, they carry lots of key injuries into this game including centre-back Diego Carlos and midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

Here's what the pundits had to say this week about the clash between Leeds United and Aston Villa at Elland Road on Sunday...

Paul Merson

The former Villa midfielder told SportsKeeda: "Leeds are a bit dull at the moment, and this is a big game for them. If they lose this game, their good start goes out the window. Neither team has played particularly well so far this season.

"Aston Villa pulled off a big result against Southampton but if they lose here, they're back to square one. Their victory against Southampton was important, but the game was dire.

"If Steven Gerrard had lost that game, serious questions would've been asked. They did win, however, and fair play to them. They'll have to go and grind one out again this weekend."

Merson's prediction: Leeds United 1-1 Aston Villa

Chris Sutton

In his prediction for BBC Sport, Sutton said: "Leeds boss Jesse Marsch won't be in the dugout after his red card against Brentford last month.

"His side will still play with the same great intensity though, and Elland Road always seems to lift them. At home is where you feel it is going to happen for them.

"Villa got a big win over Southampton last time, but their results on the road so far have been poor, with three defeats out of three, and I don't see that changing here."

Sutton's prediction: Leeds United 2-1 Aston Villa

Mark Lawrenson

In his prediction for Paddy Power, Lawrenson said: "Leeds are always difficult to beat at home, they’ve done okay overall so far. They work extremely hard but Villa got a much needed win last time.

"Villa need another positive result to keep the points ticking along but they look a bit all over the place defensively."

Lawrenson's prediction: Leeds United 1-1 Aston Villa
