Pundits predict outcome of Tottenham's Premier League clash against Southampton

After Tuesday's surprise defeat to Colchester in the Carabao Cup, Tottenham return Premier League action on Saturday afternoon.

A much-changed XI were beaten on penalties by the League Two outfit, with Christian Eriksen the only player to miss in the shootout.

The defeat was the latest in a disappointing run of results for Mauricio Pochettino's side, with Spurs suffering a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City in their last Premier League outing courtesy of James Maddison's late strike.

Spurs currently find themselves eighth in the league table, three points off the Champions League places, while their visitors to White Lane this weekend are currently three points above the drop zone.

Ralph Hasenhüttl's Southampton side picked a much-needed win over local-rivals Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, bouncing back from their 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth last Friday.

But despite their disappointing midweek set-back, pundits are backing Pochettino's side to bounce back against the Saints this weekend.

Michael Owen - BetVictor - Tottenham to win and both teams to score

Spurs are without a win in their last nine away league games and the evidence suggests they will need to make the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a fortress if they want to cement their place in the top four this term.

Defeat at Colchester in the League Cup midweek will not have helped the mood around the club this week.

Mauricio Pochettino insists Tottenham are 'united'

Mauricio Pochettino’s side did score four times in the opening 45 minutes against Crystal Palace in their last home game and I think they will keep all three points against the Saints who were flattered by the margin of victory against bitter rivals Portsmouth at Fratton Park earlier in the week.

Mark Lawrenson - BBC Sport - 3-0 Tottenham

I think Tottenham will be back with a bang this week, because they are a long way off being in crisis.

Mauricio Pochettino did look somewhat disillusioned after last weekend's defeat by Leicester, and it does appear something is going on behind the scenes.

But that doesn't stop the players from performing and they should be too strong for Southampton. A comfortable win would go a long way to solving Spurs' problems.

Charlie Nicholas - Sky Sports - 2-0 Tottenham

Southampton got a great win at Portsmouth. You may say it's only Portsmouth, but it was a derby and a derby that they needed to win. I have said this and repeated it, but there are issues at Tottenham.

Mauricio Pochettino, for the first time in his tenure, is thinking this is an unhappy camp. Tottenham need to win - to get at Southampton and get some service to Harry Kane.

There are lots of negatives around Tottenham but they will win here. I never thought they would be around Manchester City or Liverpool but I expect them to fight for the top four.

Che Adams is struggling and Ralph Hasenhuttl will want to play him, but I would leave him out and play Nathan Redmond higher up, flooding the midfield in the process. There will be moaning and groaning but Tottenham will get the result. They could do with a goal in the first 20 minutes to calm things down.
