Pundits predict outcome of Chelsea vs Ajax - and it's fantastic news for Frank Lampard

Chelsea return to Champions League football this week knowing three points will help them put one foot in the knock-out round of 16.

Having lost their opening Group H match against Valencia, the Blues have beaten Lille and Ajax in their last two outings.

It's the Dutch side who visit Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, seeking revenge from their 1-0 defeat last time out.

Another strong showing from Frank Lampard's men saw them beat Watford 2-1 in the Premier League at the weekend, although the margin of victory should really have been more convincing.

Having battled back from that matchday one setback to grind out two impressive away wins in Group H, Chelsea can not afford any more slip-ups at Stamford Bridge if they're to reap the rewards from their form on the road.

Here's a round-up of what the national media's pundits are predicting for the Reds.

Charlie Nicholas - Sky Sports

"This is a tasty fixture!

"We've seen a lot of what Ajax have done recently. They sold three or four key men in the summer and it makes them weaker, but it does not change their style or the manager's philosophy.

"Chelsea winning there was a sensational result, but there is not much between the two sides.

"I still feel there are a few hiccups along the way. You cannot bully Ajax with the ball, but you can without it. Chelsea will want to get the technical edge over Ajax so we have a great game in prospect here.

"You can still see weaknesses in both teams, but it will be another fantastic result for Frank Lampard."

Mason Mount: We want to win trophies, we want to be top of the league

CHARLIE PREDICTS: 2-1

Michael Owen -  BetVictor

"Chelsea inflicted Ajax’s only defeat of the season so far (W15 D4) when they won the reverse fixture 1-0 in Amsterdam – their first loss since their famous defeat to Spurs in the semi-final second leg back in the spring.

"Frank Lampard’s side have bounced back tremendously well in the Champions League when you consider they lost their opening game at home to Valencia and I think the Blues will edge what promises to be another terrific game between two inform, free-scoring sides."

Tip:  Chelsea to win and both teams to score
