Pundits offer Eddie Nketiah advice amid Leeds United struggles and talk of Arsenal recall

Sky Sports pundit Keith Andrews believes Arsenal should look to recall Eddie Nketiah from Leeds United in January.

The 20-year-old striker is yet to start a Championship game for the Whites this season, with Patrick Bamford instead preferred as Marcelo Bielsa's first-choice number nine.

However, that hasn't limited Nketiah's impact in west Yorkshire, scoring three goals - all of which have proved decisive - from the bench.

There has been a growing frustration from the United support base about Bielsa's reluctance to play Nketiah from the off.

Leeds beat some stiff competition to land the Arsenal starlet in the summer but with Nketiah struggling for starts, there have been rumours that Bristol City could swoop in to take him to Ashton Gate.

Lee Johnson's side are in the market for a striker having lost Benik Afobe to a season-ending knee injury.

Andrews, speaking to Sky Sports after Leeds' clash with Sheffield Wednesday believe that Arsenal may be best suited recalling Nketiah, if possible, to get him some more regular Championship football.

"Arsenal won't be happy. Loan deals have different stipulations and normal there is a recall option," Andrews told Sky Sports.

"He needs to play more football. If he's not and they do have that recall, I would be taking him back if I was Unai Emery and putting him out at a club that is going to play him more often than not.

"He needs to play more games and Marcelo Bielsa has to play him."

Similarly, former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford admitted the club run the risk of seeing Nketiah leave, although he would love for the striker to remain at Elland Road.

"I'm a Leeds fan and I don't want to see him leave but from a sensible striker's perspective, if I was in his position, it would be difficult to say that he's in a happy position right now," Beckford said.

"He is scoring goals but he is not getting the minutes. It's difficult from an Arsenal perspective.

"Hopefully he stays. If he stays, Leeds fans will love him forever. If he goes, he's a tough player to replace."

football.london  understands from sources close to Nketiah that there have been no discussions between the player and two clubs over a potential mid-season recall.

That situation is not expected to be addressed until next month's international break, although the Gunners will no doubt be hoping Nketiah's opportunities increase over the next month.
