Pundits make their Southampton vs Manchester United predictions

Manchester United will be aiming to keep their winning streak alive when they travel to Southampton on Sunday.

United have responded well to recent disappointing defeats by Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir by beating Everton and West Brom in the league and mauling Basaksehir in the reverse Champions League fixture.

The results have seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side creep up the table and they could come within a point of high-flying Southampton with a win at St. Mary's.

However, the match will by no means be a walk in the park as Saints have had a a great start to the campaign and are undefeated in their last seven matches.

Here's how the pundits think the game will go...

Tyrone Marshall and Samuel Luckhurst on how Manchester United could line-up against Southampton

Mark Lawrenson, BBC

"Manchester United have been much better on the road this season, and have won three out of three away league games so far.

"I am backing them to make it four out of four on Sunday, with the template being their win over Everton at Goodison Park before the international break.

"We know how good Southampton have been but they are not going to just sit in - they will have a go at United, who will be happy for them to do that and then look to pick them off the same way they did at Everton."

Prediction: Southampton 0-2 United

Michael Owen, BetVictor

"I covered Southampton’s game against Newcastle the other week and they were exceptional. In my opinion, Ralph Hasenhüttl is going places. He has the Saints playing tremendously well and he could be headed for the very top.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still trying to work out what his best starting eleven is. Whenever he plays McTominay and Fred together they look a bit toothless going forward. However, on the flip side of that, if he goes with his most attacking options, they look a bit fragile.

"I think this will be tight, and given the recent form of both sides, I can see this ending in a score draw."

Prediction: score draw

Dimitar Berbatov, Betfair

"This will be a tough game for United and it will be a good one for neutrals. Saints are doing really well and their success is going under the radar. But I think United can take an important three points here."

Prediction: Southampton 1-2 United
