Pundits make their Manchester United vs FC Copenhagen predictions

Manchester United enter the unknown this evening as they take part in one of the very first single-leg Europa League knockout ties.

The Reds take on Copenhagen in Cologne, with all knockout matches now taking place in a winner-takes-all single-leg tie in Germany due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It means United are potentially just three victories away from silverware following last week's win over LASK.

So how are they expected to get on against Copenhagen?

Ex-United striker Michael Owen has had his say on how his thinks the match will pan out.

Speaking on behalf of BetVictor, Owen said: "A rather lack-lustre performance from Manchester United ended with a 2-1 victory after coming from a goal down on Thursday evening. In fairness, the tie was over after the first leg (5-0) so one can forgive the Red Devils for not being at their very best.

"They now head to Germany as favourites to win the competition and round off what would be a very successful first full season in charge for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"United have used 38 players in the UEFA Europa League this season – the most players a team has used in a single campaign in UEFA Cup/ UEFA Europa League history.

"Copenhagen demolished the newly crowned Turkish Champions, İstanbul Başakşehir 3-0 after losing the first leg 1-0 and deservedly earned themselves a place in the Europa League quarter-finals for the first time in their history.

"I am pretty sure that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will bring back some of his star players for this tie. It’s a favourable draw this one, I think, for United and I’m going for a 2-1 win for the Red Devils."

Prediction: United 2-1 Copenhagen

Meanwhile sports writers are also predicting that United will progress comfortably - The Independent say the Reds "have the attacking quality to ease their way through to the semi-finals" and will win 3-1.

United are heavy favourites to go through to the semi-finals. According to thepools.com the Reds are 2/9 to win - it's 5/1 for a draw at 90 minutes and a shock Copenhagen win is 12/1.
