Pundits make their Chelsea vs Man City predictions

Man City make the trip to Chelsea on Sunday looking to continue their positive recent form.

Pep Guardiola's side have not played since Boxing Day due to Covid-19 cases seeing their game against Everton on Monday postponed.

It means they will not be at full strength for the game against Chelsea, who they sit level on points with.

Frank Lampard's side are two places above City due to a better goal difference but they have played two games more.

Here is how pundits think the game will go.

Mark Lawrenson - BBC

"Chelsea have lost their last three away league games - at Everton, Wolves and Arsenal - but their form at Stamford Bridge has been a lot more solid.

"I am still going with a Manchester City win, though. Pep Guardiola's side are not quite at it, in terms of going forward and opening up teams, but the trade-off for that has been their improvement defensively.

"The feel of the City team is different when they play 4-2-3-1 rather than 4-3-3 but that's also down to the balance of attacking players in the team as well as their formation.

"Maybe Guardiola felt his side are a little bit weak at the back and wanted that protection but, by addressing that problem, it seems to have made things harder for City at the other end.

"They are still getting results, but it feels more like they are getting them by attrition."

Prediction: Chelsea 0 Man City 2

Michael Owen - BetVictor

"The Christmas period hasn’t been kind to Chelsea, having won just one of their last six matches.

"It’s no surprise that the heat has been cranked up a notch on Frank Lampard, however, a win here is just the remedy he needs.

"These are the types of matches Chelsea seem to thrive in, and with City not at full strength, I could see the Blues nicking it in an entertaining match."

Prediction: Chelsea 2 Man City 1
