Pundits agree on Manchester United prediction ahead of Wolves clash

Manchester United will be looking to round off their year on a high against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men face Wolves at Old Trafford on Tuesday (December 29, 8pm kick-off) in their final match of 2020.

United 's recent good form in the league has seen them climb into the top four.

They go into this game five points behind leaders Liverpool, and with a game in hand.

United drew 2-2 at Leicester City last time out, on Boxing Day. They led twice with strikes from Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, only to be denied victory by a late Axel Tuanzebe own goal.

Wolves, meanwhile, are in mid-table after taking 21 points from their opening 15 games.

They are six points behind United following their 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Molineux on Sunday.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men looked to be heading for defeat but salvaged a point thanks to a late Romain Saiss header.

Former United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen is backing Solskjaer's side to edge past Wolves 1-0.

"Manchester United are brimming with confidence. Their patchy home form was given a massive boost in their demolition of Leeds just over a week ago," said Owen in his latest BetVictor blog.

"They take on a Wolves side who despite looking good going forward, are struggling in front of goal.

"I think Wolves could sit in and play for a point, but if they do, United may just have enough to break them down."

BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson is also predicting a United win - but by a 2-1 scoreline.

"There is nothing wrong with Manchester United going forward but they were poor at the back against Leicester, which is why they didn't win that game," said the former Liverpool defender.

"Wolves have the opposite problem, because they don't have much of a cutting edge.

"I'm expecting this to be a tight game, but United should make their attacking quality count, eventually."
