Pundit sends Nottingham Forest message as Reds begin search for Chris Hughton replacement

Nottingham Forest have been sent a clear suggestion as to who they should appoint to replace Chris Hughton by talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist.

The Reds are on the search for a new manager, having parted company with Chris Hughton after what has been the club's worst start to a season for more than 100 years.

A 2-0 home defeat to Middlesbrough on Wednesday (September 15) night proved to be the final step on the plank as it became inevitable that Hughton would face the axe.

Speaking on talkSPORT's breakfast show, former Rangers striker McCoist made his recommendations clear to the Nottingham Forest hierarchy.

He said: "What about Eddie Howe? Eddie still got a mention after the Celtic thing when a lot of people - myself included - thought he was going there.

"He's another one, but I think the former Blades boss Chris Wilder would not be an obvious one. I certainly think he'll be a good fit. I don't think there is any getting away from that."

Retired England cricketer Darren Gough added on the show: "I saw John Terry had distanced himself from the job, saying he is good friends with Chris Hughton.

"He will be mentioned. There will also be people like [Frank] Lampard, but for me it would be a good move for Wilder.

"He's a fantastic bloke, top manager, and you only have to look at his record to see the teams he has got from those sort of levels to the very top - especially Sheffield United. I think it would be a good move for him."
