Pundit pinpoints January as reason behind Leeds United's poor run heading into the play-offs

Sky Sports pundit Keith Andrews believes Marcelo Bielsa’s high-intensity style of play has contributed to Leeds United’s poor run of form towards the end of the season.

The Argentine arrived at Elland Road last summer and quickly set about installing his trademark brand of high intensity football.

That quickly established the club as the early pace setters in the Championship before a three way battle for promotion developed between Leeds, Norwich and Sheffield United.

Ultimately, the Canaries and the Blades took first and second respectively, with Leeds forced to settle for the playoffs after poor form saw them finish the season with three defeats in their last four games.

That run surprised many, although in the eyes of Andrew it is to be expected.

“I think it’s been well documented I had concerns about whether they could sustain it,” he said before Leeds’ meeting with Derby on Saturday.

“Go back to January and not investing. The relentless nature in which he wants the team to play.

“I think if you look at both 18 yard boxes they haven’t been as efficient. Defensively, only two clean sheets in their last 9. Disrupted back four, especially at left-back, and at the top end of the pitch; Bamford, Roofe, the injury troubles they’ve had. And not taking chances when they’ve had teams on the rack. “
