Thiago Silva has been praised for his defending of former teammate Edinson Cavani during Chelsea's draw with Manchester United.
The Blues picked up a point at Old Trafford following a goalless draw in which Man United's deadline day signing Cavani made his debut from the bench.
The Uruguayan might have been dreaming of a debut goal, but he came up against former PSG teammate Silva in the Chelsea defence, and the Brazilian came out on top.
On the back of that performance, Silva has been praised by former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen, who has described the Chelsea defender's efforts as 'great defending'.
Speaking about Cavani to Premier League productions, Owen said: "I love this guy’s movement, he’s my type of striker.
"I’ve always said half a yard at the near post is better than two or three yards at the back post because invariably the ball doesn’t get there. And if it does, defenders turn, spin and close you down. The timing of his run, he’s on his toes."
Owen then eluded to Silva's brilliant defending, adding: "Thiago [Silva] played alongside him at Paris Saint-Germain, he knows exactly how he does it, when he tries to time it, you could see that, talk about knowing your players, great defending.
"Normally, against most defenders he might have got there in front, nicked it and he would’ve have got a block in."
Cavani and Silva spent seven years together at PSG, winning six Ligue 1 titles and a number of domestic crowns.
Silva reached the Champions League final with the French club last season, eventually losing in the final to Bayern Munich, but Cavani wasn't part of that run, leaving the French capital before the competition resumed following the coronavirus break.
