Pundit names Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron in his Premier League worst XI

Pundit Danny Mills has named Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron in his Premier League worst XI - insisting the club should expect more from their former record signing.

The Paraguay international registered his first assist of the season in the home draw with Manchester City, and started both of the Magpies' recent victories over Sheffield United and Southampton.

Almiron's is yet to score in black and white since his move from MLS outfit Atlanta United in January, but has established himself as a constant first-team pick under both Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce.

Mills accepts supporters "love" the 25-year-old for his work-rate, but remains adamant United should expect goals and assists from their investment.

The former England international has been a constant critic of Almiron, and has now named him as one of three midfielders in his worst Premier League XI.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mill said: "I know he works incredibly hard and Newcastle fans love him for his work rate.

“You’re a midfield player and you work hard…that’s mandatory.

“In terms of creating chances, scoring goals…what is it, one assist? He has finally got one.

“It’s not really enough, working hard is great and I understand Newcastle fans love him for that but we need to see start seeing him doing better as when you consider £20m…you expect a little bit more.”
