Pundit makes Danny Ings transfer claim about Manchester United and Man City

Southampton striker Danny Ings could be on his way to Manchester United or Man City this summer, amid ongoing transfer speculation.

That is according to pundit Chris Sutton, who has claimed to have some inside information on Ings' future. The 28-year-old has been impressive since returning to Southampton, from Liverpool, and both United and City have been linked with a number of strikers recently.

Both Manchester clubs covet Harry Kane and Erling Haaland as potential striker targets for the summer, though neither the Tottenham Hotspur or Borussia Dortmund talismen are likely to come cheap.

Everton and Tottenham have been linked with Ings, but Sutton told BBC Radio 5Live that he believes United or City could sign him as a cheaper striking option.

“There’s talk about Danny Ings leaving,” said Sutton. “He could end up at Manchester City or Manchester United.

“There are all sorts of rumours flooding around the Norfolk area, but that’s what I have heard. And how could they (Southampton) possibly replace him?”

Ings has endured a season partially affected by injuries, but still managed to score 14 goals for Saints. He recently missed out on a spot in Gareth Southgate's provisional England squad for the upcoming European Championships.

Speaking earlier this month about stories linking him with a move away from Saints, Ings said: “I haven’t really acknowledged them [the rumours]. I’ve just been focused on each game. Ultimately, I’ve still got a contract here."
