Pundit gives his verdict on Lewis Grabban’s Nottingham Forest goal vs Middlesbrough

Keith Andrews believes referee Darren England was right to allow Lewis Grabban’s goal against Middlesbrough to stand.

The Reds were trailing 2-1 when Grabban pounced to rescue his side a point with four minutes remaining.

Sabri Lamouchi's side looked set to be beaten as they struggled against Jonathan Woodgate’s relegation-threatened men at the Riverside.

But Grabban managed to get himself in front of keeper Aynsley Pears with his back to goal to turn before turning the ball home from close-range, and although the Boro keeper was adamant a foul had taken place, England simply waved away his protests.

“First impressions are it is not a free-kick,” Andrews said in commentary. “It is a really inventive corner kick. Then it is all about this. He backs in undoubtedly, but he is clever and uses it like it is a defender.

“That is not a free-kick and that is quite simply a delightful touch. He uses the spin on the ball he gets his body across which he is entitled to do and he flicks it into the empty net.

“Very clever centre-forward play by Lewis Grabban. Middlesbrough will be raging but that for is most certainly not a free-kick.”
